Just googled "Islamic microfinance" and found that the paper I wrote in 2005, while I was till living in Egypt, still hits the second place after the paper published by the CGAP (Islamic Microfinance An Emerging Market Niche, August 2008). It's 2009 and I still receive quite a number of emails from people who are interested in Sharia compliant microfinance products but still haven't found a model to follow, or identified a best practice.
My paper was aiming at analyzing the roots and principles of Islamic (micro)finance in comparison to the so called socially responsible finance.
I now see the need to experiment concrete practices in order to fully identify how Sharia compliant products can fit in the microfinance market.
